Manoir Davis – Wedding in the Laurentians

Katherine and Jeanne's wedding at Davis Manor took place last January. I couldn't have asked for a better first wedding of the season to kick off 2025. Everything went perfectly: from the beginning of the preparations to the dancing in the evening. And all this in a cool and relaxed atmosphere, but a little frenetic due to the excitement of everyone present! Convinced in advance that I was going to have a great time with the couple and their guests, I was really looking forward to meeting them in person. We had had two meetings via Zoom and we really hit it off. So I was anticipating the day and I was sure that everything was going to be impeccable, even before I arrived!

The goal of the day was to have a great time, in the presence of everyone. I didn't really want Jeanne and her daughters to take care of me and my camera haha. It was a question of having photos taken on the spot and full of emotion. There are always "classic" photos to take, but the lovers and I didn't want it to be too "posed", all day long.

    First Look at Davis Manor

I was really looking forward to visiting the Davis Manor for the first time. It has been open for three years and is perfect for intimate weddings. The Manor becomes more and more sought after each year as word gets around that it is a beautiful venue for various celebrations. The brides booked it for 4 full days of celebration. With 6 bedrooms and a large room that can hold multiple beds, the Manor is perfect for the number of guests they had. I had seen some pictures online and I have to admit that I fell in love with the majestic and beautiful main staircase. Built in 1910, the staircase is a masterpiece. With the huge window at the top, we decided to do our first look there.

After the touching first look where the brides saw each other for the first time (even I was a little emotional), we went outside, in the snow. I can never express my love for winter weddings enough. I hate snow hahaha, I only like it when I take pictures of people in front of it or in it lol! Plus, we were really lucky with the weather. Because the day before the wedding (which was a Friday), it felt like -24 with the wind! On the day itself, we were able to enjoy a nice little -6 degrees, without wind! And the next day, Saturday, the mercury was back at -26 Celsius with the wind! It's like they chose to get married on a Friday because they had a feeling of what would be ideal, temperature-wise. The girls were able to take off their coats, a good part of the couple session outside. What bliss!

We had a lot of fun outside. Miguel, my boyfriend and assistant, held the coats for the girls when they were warm enough to take them off. I will always remember him running with the 2 bouquets and the coats in his arms, to go and close the front door behind the brides haha! I was laughing my head off. It was something to see! I took a picture of it but it is not good enough to post. The girls, not wanting static pictures, had a lot of ideas to move and have fun. I have to say that I think they are perfect together, making each other laugh and knowing what to do to get the other one moving and make her giggle.

The indoor ceremony at Davis Manor

The ceremony took place inside the Davis Manor, in the main room that would later serve as the reception. Celebrated by a good friend of the couple, the ceremony was brief but touching, beautiful and in the image of the brides. I was happy to see that there was still a lot of outside light entering the Manor even though it was 4pm. I was able to take the photos without flash, for a warm and cozy atmosphere.

The magnificent decoration of the ceremony and reception, as well as the brides' bouquets are the work of Isodora de Be Host Events. I saw her at work during the day and I have to say that Isodora creates magic in a short time. After the ceremony, the room was converted into a reception area. She created a cozy, warm and chic atmosphere while highlighting the Davis Manor.

An intimate reception at Davis Manor

Once the room was transformed and cocktail hour had passed, the wonderful MC Robert Applyrs from The Applyrs Xperience and Dj Kamistry were waiting for the brides and guests to continue the party. Robert is dynamic, funny and super nice. He is an approachable guy who likes to have fun with the guests. He does not hesitate, for example, to dance with them. Let's just say that this pair of friends knows how to get a room up! There were a few games and speeches before the end of dinner. We took advantage of the time when the tables were cleared to go outside with everyone and take pictures with sparklers. It was really a beautiful moment. There were a few dances before the brides presented their choreography (prepared in secret). The dance floor filled up, so it was time for me to leave and return to Montreal. In the car, I realized that my boyfriend and I were lucky to have such beautiful days. The brides had given us a special place among their loved ones!

      Grand Lodge Mont-Tremblant Wedding C + Y

Catherine and Yannick tied the knot at the Grand Lodge Mont-Tremblant last February. Avid winter sports enthusiasts, a snow wedding was a natural choice for them. It also allowed them to gather friends and family for a weekend at a hotel in Tremblant. And weddings go by so quickly that it's truly wonderful to see loved ones both the day before and the day after the big day. In fact, this is one of Catherine's recommendations to all future brides and grooms: to stretch it out as long as possible to truly savor the moment. The couple had even planned a brunch for Sunday morning—not too early, haha!

First look at the Grand Lodge Mont-Tremblant with the bride and groom's daughters

The lovers got ready in rooms close to each other. The day before the wedding, I had a flash that it could be fantastic to do a first look as a family! That is to say with the bride and groom's daughters and themselves. Since the weather was quite mild, the snow had melted in places. So we decided "on the spot" that we would take the first look photos right after leaving the rooms, outside. Catherine only had to go through the sliding door of her room to join Yannick and the girls, who were waiting for her with their backs to her. The second photo below is everything I had imagined when doing this with the children: wonder and emotion!

Ceremony at the Church of Saint-Faustin

Since in winter, the sun sets early, we took the official photos with the bride and groom and the procession before the ceremony. Less stress in the carpet because the bride and groom had seen each other just before, we went to the Church of St-Faustin in Mont-Blanc. I have already been to this church several years ago. I did not remember it being so beautiful and so grandiose! Built at the end of the 19th century, the church is rich in details with all its columns and stained glass windows. And, by the way, over the years, I have often noticed that by doing a first look, the bride and groom can better enjoy their ceremony. It is a lot of emotions at the same time, but often the groom is as excited to see his future wife walk down the aisle as if he had not taken the photos with her just before.

Reception at the Grand Lodge Mont-Tremblant

I will never stop saying how much I LOVE winter weddings. It's beautiful, it's magical and it's out of the ordinary! In addition, the temperature was perfect, milder than normal. It wasn't sunny but it's better in my opinion for taking outdoor photos. Catherine and Yannick knew how to surround themselves with great suppliers for the occasion. Cooperation was easy with them. Communication is the basis when you work with people you see for the first or second time and everything was perfect with them. Special mention to the dessert table made by Flour and Chocolate. I couldn't stop looking at it and taking pictures of it hahaha! I love the symmetry! The decor set up and coordination was done by Miss F, the smiling Cynthia accompanied by her sister for the occasion. And then what about the bride and groom's outfits? Catherine found her dress at White Space of Whites and Yannick's outfit personalized and handmade by Surmesur.

He knew how to capture the attention of the many guests with a fiery animation. He also made some games by involving not only the bride and groom but sometimes only their guests. Catherine and Yannick were able to enjoy the moment, realizing how well surrounded they are. I left them after having spent twelve hours with them! And then I wasn't even tired! Just a little "electrified" to have been able to witness such a beautiful day!

Winter wedding at L'Ambroisie and L'Espace Canal

winter wedding at Ambrosia and Espace Canal

Audrey and Pierre-Alexandre got married last February at L'Ambroisie and L'Espace Canal, in Griffintown, Montreal. One of the reasons why they wanted to have a winter wedding was because they had their first date in winter. That was ten years ago, almost to the day. They chose L'Ambroisie and L'Espace Canal for the somewhat industrial look of the venue. And for the urban side of getting married in Montreal. They also wanted to have the ceremony outside, for the magical side of winter and the snow that fell that day, fortunately!

So I went to join them not far from their reception room, at Alt Hotel Montreal in Griffintown as well. The two lovers were getting ready in separate rooms, but next to each other. I arrived to see the guys first while the girls were on their way from Mascouche. I was expecting them about an hour later. But for blog posts, I like to mix the two preparations. Like in the printed books I often make for the bride and groom.

Pierre-Alexandre and Audrey wanted to see each other before the ceremony by doing a "First Look". One of the reasons being that they wanted to be with the guests during the cocktail. So we decided that everything would take place in the lobby of the Alt Hotel where there is a big wall of photographs. They were really cute and a little embarrassed because they were not alone at the reception haha!

The bride and groom and their wedding party at L'Ambroisie and Espace Canal

We headed straight to L'Ambroisie and Espace Canal after the "First Look." The weather was quite cold, unlike the rest of last winter! We wanted to maximize our time for photos, so we started taking pictures with the wedding party right away. Pierre-Alexandre isn't at all sensitive to the cold; he sometimes goes out in winter without a coat. He figured he wouldn't need one on the wedding day because he has "Viking blood." But the temperature dipped close to -15 degrees Celsius, and there's a limit to what the body can endure… So we cut short the couple's photo session and took some more after the ceremony. We also went into their reception hall to warm up a bit, just before the outdoor ceremony.

Outdoor winter ceremony at L'Ambroisie and Espace Canal

I have photographed several winter weddings. All over the place, in the Laurentians, in Montreal etc. and it was the first time I attended an outdoor ceremony. The guests had been warned, they had dressed warmly. It was magical and so beautiful, with the light snow falling. I really like the photo below, on the right. The grandparents who stayed inside for the ceremony, were looking out the window at what was happening. I really like the reflection with the guests and the snow.

I found their room and the kind of industrial look it has very beautiful. A simple and refined decoration went hand in hand with the Espace Canal room. The centerpieces were also created by the bride and groom. I always take advantage of the moment when the guests have not yet entered the room to take photos of decorations. I find this important because the bride and groom took time to think about what they liked and wanted to do.

        My love for winter weddings

In short, I loved my day with them. I still have so much love for winter weddings that I find so magical and beautiful. I had another special and memorable day. Let's face it, in winter, many photographers are free! Because there are far fewer weddings between November and April than during the high season which is from May to October. So it's always flattering to be chosen as a photographer for such a precious day! It's important to click with the bride and groom during the first meeting! We hit it off right away with them so I knew in advance that I would have a great time! Thanks again Audrey and Pierre-Alexandre!

Winter Wedding Photographer at the Grand Lodge in Tremblant

Carol-Ann and Chris got married at the Grand Lodge Tremblant, in the heart of the Laurentians, last December. I couldn't have dreamed of a more beautiful wedding to end this crazy year! A year in which I've never been so busy. Filled with laughter, love, and happiness, 2022 kept me on my toes right up until Christmas Eve! Even without snow, everything screamed winter wedding on that magnificent day of December 10th. From the decorations to the centerpieces to the groom's attire: the Christmas spirit was everywhere! Here's a glimpse of their preparations at the hotel.

The only time I like snow in winter is when I'm taking pictures of people standing in it, haha! And that was the only thing missing from this wedding. It just goes to show, you can never predict the weather… But it was so cold during the couple's outdoor photoshoot, I thought they were amazing to persevere! The newlyweds were brave enough to venture into the woods right next to the Grand Lodge. I love that place: La Pinède! I wanted to capture the atmosphere of the woods in the darkness of night. It was even a little unnerving walking in the dark. We had a good laugh telling each other stories from scary movies, lol!

The Borivage of the Grand Lodge Tremblant transformed!

The Borivage restaurant was transformed during the cocktail hour. They only had 30 to 40 minutes to turn everything into a wedding reception hall! And what a success! Unfortunately, everyone was already seated when I came back inside from the cold. So I wasn't able to photograph the decor without guests. The evening was festive, with speeches and laughter. I even had time to take photos of the bouquet toss and the garter toss before heading back to Montreal! So happy with my day spent with the bride and groom and their guests!
