Wedding at the Old Mill in Rigaud – F+S

Fanny and Sebastian's wedding took place this month at the Vieux Moulin in Rigaud. A place I adore and that holds a special place in my heart. I started the day by visiting the bride, who was getting ready at her parents' house. A large house with lots of people, haha! Miguel, my boyfriend and longtime assistant, was there to film the couple's big day. You could say he wears many hats: part-time videographer, graphic designer for the CH (presumably a local organization), and my photo assistant when I'm there just to take the photos. Right away, we filmed and photographed the bride's accessories before she got dressed, so we could take some portraits and photos with her immediate family. Her little Hervé, seven months old, stayed home with his dad, Sebastian. We ran a little short on time to take photos with the bridesmaids—once they were dressed—but we made up for it with them after the ceremony.

Fanny's stunning dress came from the boutique The Pretty Dress, located in Vaudreuil. I cheat a little when I make my blog posts by mixing wedding photos of both the bride and groom getting ready. But this time, I started with the girls because they were further from the Old Mill, so it made sense to show the guys second.

Sebastian was surrounded by his two brothers and two good friends. We decided to do the prep outside the house because, surrounded by trees and rather cloudy at the time, it was a bit dark inside. I'm glad we made this decision because I think it makes for beautiful, natural photos. The only thing that was a bit of a problem was the heat and humidity, haha! Since there was no air conditioning, I got out my little portable fan a few times. But we prioritized the beautiful light over the cool air inside the house.

Outdoor ceremony at the Old Mill in Rigaud
The couple's wedding ceremony took place at the Old Mill in Rigaud, where there's a beautiful gazebo by the water. It was then that I learned a little more about the bride and groom. They've been together since 2020, having met in British Columbia. They lived there for three years before embarking on a year-long van life tour of Australia, Sebastian's home country. Once their trip was over, they settled in Quebec, bought a house, and had their son, Hervé. All while planning a wedding! The ceremony was touching, with one of the bridesmaids giving a beautiful speech describing the couple's journey.

Five minutes after the group photo, a big thunderstorm broke out. Luckily, it didn't last. Once the rain stopped, I had time to take the family photos, and then the sky darkened again. A few more photos with the bridesmaids, and the rain started up again. But given the weather this year, we didn't panic and just waited for it to pass, which took another five minutes. And then, the light was just perfect for the wedding party and couple photos!

Wedding reception at the Old Mill in Rigaud
With the wedding photos finished, we headed to the second floor of the Vieux Moulin, where their guests were waiting. I wasn't expecting such an electrifying and festive atmosphere right from the start, but as soon as the wedding party and the bride and groom entered, the party had begun! I could feel the energy in the air from the very beginning of the evening. With Patrick Lecavalier as DJ, everything flowed quickly and efficiently: the dance floor filled up rapidly, and the speeches from the groomsmen, the maid of honor, and Fanny's parents were all incredibly touching. Between courses, we played the traditional table game, a game that's very popular and now a bit more "common" than before. "Common" in the sense that I'll be playing it at practically all my weddings in 2026, with the participation of the bride and groom and the DJ. The idea is to place two chairs on the dance floor, and the DJ calls up the tables one by one so they can come and "pose" with the bride and groom. I love this game because it creates beautiful memories for the bride and groom and their guests. And it ensures everyone is in the photos later that evening.

In short, we had a wonderful day with the guests and the lovely bride and groom. Sebastian and Fanny are truly a perfect match! They make such a friendly and kind couple, with the same energy. As a wedding photographer, I couldn't ask for anything better!
