The Tundra of Parc Jean-Drapeau Wedding – K + L
I can't say enough how much I love going to Parc Jean-Drapeau to photograph weddings. Especially when it's at La Toundra. The building is located in the middle of the Floralies Gardens, a remnant of Expo 67! I'd been looking forward to this wedding ever since I met the couple for their engagement shoot. That shoot, which took place last winter, was entirely at their ancestral home in the Montérégie region.
For their big day, Karina and Laurent were getting ready at their house. But each was on their own floor! I first started the day by photographing the bride's accessories. Laurent had gone to put the finishing touches on their reception room. There were some last-minute unforeseen events that meant that the groom was a little late in his preparations. In short, I had a little more time with the bride and her maid of honor. Karina and her best friend had time to make eggs for dinner. We thought it was really funny!
First look at home
Once the photos with the groom and his best man were taken, it was time for the couple's "first look." The newlyweds saw each other for the first time in their dining room as Karina arrived behind Laurent. The groom's parents were by my side, and it was a very moving moment! I was determined to take some photos in their home, so we did that immediately. Then we left for La Toundra in Parc Jean-Drapeau, where family and friends were waiting for the couple in the beautiful gardens.

Getting married in May often means having the pleasure of seeing tulips. What a surprise it was to see hundreds of them, surrounding the ceremony venue. It was truly beautiful! The advantage of getting married at La Toundra is being able to have the ceremony right next to the venue. The two venues are separate. If it rains, you can cover up by going inside the venue. We were lucky enough to have overcast weather and superb light that day. So there was no shadowing from the sun in the photos.

I said earlier that I loved La Toundra… why? First of all, because getting married there gives you the chance to create a truly unique event. The venue is like an empty canvas when you book it. You can arrange the tables and chairs however you want. Then, you can have a great grand decor or a simpler decor and it will be just as pretty. The light that comes in is superb. And the large windows that overlook the gardens are impressive.
In addition, there is a second floor and my assistant can go up there to provide additional lighting in the evening: by holding a second flash in his hands. You can also choose the caterer of your choice. In short, you can have the wedding of your dreams there, a wedding in your image! There are also magnificent sunsets over Montreal that can be seen from the room. And that was the case that evening. I even took the opportunity to go out with the bride and groom, on the bike path.
A successful wedding reception
Together for over twelve years, the lovers met in secondary 3! The guests were all very happy to celebrate their love and party with them. There were beautiful speeches in the evening. As well as the shoe game, which I never get tired of. Maybe it's because it gives me the opportunity to learn more about the bride and groom. But after all these years of photographing weddings, I'm not tired of this game haha! It makes the guests and the bride and groom laugh and it gives me the opportunity to take pictures of people in action.
My amazing day ended with the bride and groom and their parents dancing. Then everyone was invited to the dance floor! The sweethearts' wedding was my first of the "high season" and it was perfect from start to finish!
