Engagement and couple session at home

Engagement/Couple Session – K & L

I wanted to do a full post about Karina and Laurent's engagement session because I really liked the concept of doing it all at home! The session is also a way to practice having photos taken before the big day, that is, their wedding. It will take place in a few weeks at La Toundra of Parc Jean-Drapeau and I can't wait! Karina and I had exchanged a few examples of what we were looking for as a "vibe" and it was exactly the same thing! We were going in the same direction! From the beginning of the session, I told them not to look at the camera, to act like I wasn't there.

I met Laurent for the first time that day. Having organized a wedding while they were both working nights, I had only seen Karina via a Zoom meeting. I clicked with her straight away. She is fine, calm and has a big heart.

An engagement session at home, why?

When I was talking with Karina last fall, she suggested that we do the photoshoot at their home. They are young and lucky because they seem to have found the house of their dreams. A real little cocoon where the decor is very beautiful and soothing. And it is "their" home, where they feel good and where their personality is represented everywhere. During the session, we got to know each other better. They then told me that they had met in high school. And that their first date was at the movies. That was 12 years ago already, in 2011. So they are each other's first love! Isn't that cute enough!!!

I feel like doing engagement photos helps the bride and groom feel more comfortable in front of my camera. They learn what their best angle is, how to place their arms or hands for example. Or what to do if there is a part of themselves that they like less to see in photos! In addition, several couples have already told me that they are not photogenic. To realize after the session, that they too take good photos! They are themselves, it represents them well and that sometimes it is just a matter of having good advice.

Couple photos as souvenirs

Let's face it, these two are not ugly haha. And even better than that, they are beautiful together! They are very much in love and I wanted that to show in the photos. I think it was quite successful. I barely had to give them any instructions on how to position themselves. And then the session will allow them to have couple photos as souvenirs. In fact, my little finger tells me that they will probably frame a few of them!
