Auberge Handfield Wedding in Montérégie – M+C

It was at the Auberge Handfield that Monika and Christian chose to say I DO, for a second time! A little over two weeks ago. I only learned that day that the lovers had gotten married in complete privacy last summer when everything was pretty uncertain regarding the wedding reception. They met three years ago on an online application. Since then, the lovers have been a couple who like to have plans and who don't wait forever to make them happen! That Sunday, I also met their thirteen-month-old baby Lukasz at the wedding (the spitting image of his dad).

The bride and groom were both getting ready at Auberge Handfield for the occasion. I like it when everything happens in the same place (preparation, ceremony, reception) because we lose less time traveling. Being located in Saint-Marc-sur-Richelieu, the place is not very far from my home too! I am in Montreal very close to the tunnel haha! So I started the day by photographing the bride and groom's accessories in one of the bridesmaid's rooms. She was kind enough to lend it to us, the time to photograph the dress, the jewelry, the shoes, the flowers etc. Once everything was photographed, I went to join the guys in one of the rooms nearby.

When I do blog posts, just like when I create printed books, I like to mix up the bride and groom's preparation. It doesn't necessarily have to be in chronological order. Although I often start with the props, then the guys, then the girls. I find that it gives a nice variety of shots.

An emotional first look in front of the Handfield Inn
That day, we had established a whole schedule that Monika was ready to follow to the letter. She had even printed it out and put it up in her bedroom mirror, haha! But the uncertain weather prompted us to adapt quickly. The bride and groom were keen to have a "first look" before the ceremony and then continue with the wedding party photos. Since it started raining just as the couple was about to see each other for the "first look," I decided it would be better if I were outside and they were under the roof of the Auberge Handfield. And what a reveal it was!
Christian becoming all emotional at the sight of his beautiful Monika! It must be said that she was really very beautiful, with her long veil that started from the straps of her dress, bought at Yes I wish it. I always love this moment, which is full of emotions and very exciting for everyone! As the rain continued, we thought it would be easier to take some of the couple photos. It was already planned that way anyway: to take the photos of the lovers, before and after the ceremony. So we put the procession photos back to the end of the ceremony.

A touching ceremony under a cathedral roof
Until the last minute, the bride and groom wanted the ceremony to be outside, facing the marina. It was shortly before it began that the decision was made to have an indoor ceremony. The weather being uncertain, it was wiser this way. Celebrated by Pascale Charbonneau, from Mariages à Bras ouverts, it took place in the La Grange room. A beautiful room with character and a cathedral ceiling!

At the exit of the room, we took the traditional group photo on a small slope facing the marina. To continue with the family photos, the procession and the second part of the couple photos.

The Handfield Inn Marina
The beautiful room at the Handfield Inn, called La Marina, was magnificently decorated for the occasion by Lyne Daigle from The Dressed TableLyne took care of everything herself: the bride's flowers, centerpieces, tablecloths, cake, and so on. Everything! It always takes a huge weight off the bride and groom's shoulders to know they're surrounded by an experienced decorator. The evening flew by, with dancing, speeches, and games. I especially loved the bouquet game where, instead of throwing her flowers, the bride held ribbons with her eyes covered. She then cut each ribbon that was tied to a guest, until only one ribbon remained at the end. The winner got to keep the bride's bouquet or a bouquet specially made for the occasion.

Right after the cocktail, the bride and groom entered the room with their first dance! Once again, it was beautiful to see Monika and especially Christian, very moved. The evening passed in a flash, even offering us a superb sunset.
